Rohini Vrat 2023: Rohini Vrat is an important fasting day in the Jain religion. Women primarily observe Rohini Vrat for the longevity of their spouses. Rohini is one of the twenty-seven Nakshatra in the Hindu and Jain calendars.

The Rohini fast is observed on days when the Rohini Nakshatra predominates after sunrise. It is believed that those who observe the Rohini fast can rid themselves of all forms of misery and destitution. When Rohini Nakshatra is in Margashirsha Nakshatra, its Parana is performed.

Rohini Vrat Significance

For devotees of Lord Krishna, the Rohini Vrat is regarded as extremely auspicious. It is believed that observance of this vrat with devotion can bring devotees to calm, prosperity, and happiness. Additionally, it is believed to eliminate obstacles and bring prosperity in all endeavours.

As Lord Krishna was born on this day and under this nakshatra, the Rohini nakshatra is regarded as particularly sacred. It is believed that observance of this vrat with devotion can satisfy Lord Krishna and result in his blessing

History

According to Hindu texts, Lord Mahavir led an ascetic lifestyle and advocated peace and nonviolence at all times.

Considered the originator of Jainism, he was preceded by 23 Tirthankaras or pathfinders.

They led ascetic lives and engaged in intense spiritual meditation.

Devotees believe Mahavir believed that a person can only attain self-realization, the ultimate purpose of human birth when he or she transcends attachment to the physical body.

Rituals

  • On this day, one must rise at Brahma Muhurta and perform a thorough house cleaning. After bathing and retiring from all routine activities, one should then tidy the house.
  • Take a bath meditation with Gangajal water, and then make a vow to fast.
  • Purify yourself by doing aamchan.
  • First, offer the Sun God water. In Jainism, it is forbidden to eat supper during this fast. Fruits should be consumed prior to sunset.
