After the puja, the followers engage in the moon-sighting practise known as “moon gazing” or “chandra darshan.” This ceremony entails reciting special prayers and singing devotional songs to Lord Ganesha, then gazing at the moon through a sieve or the spaces between fingers. During Sankashti Chaturthi, it’s said that looking at the moon brings luck and grants wishes.

What Sankashti Chaturthi means?
The appearance of the moon has special significance on Sankashti Chaturthi, a holy day. In order to receive the blessing of progeny, childless couples also observe the Sankashti Chaturthi vrat.
Each lunar month, on Sankashti Chaturthi, God Ganesha is honoured with a distinct peeta (lotus petal) and name. There are a total of 13 vrats, and each one has a distinct goal and narrative known as a “vrat katha.” There are therefore 13 “vrat kathas” in all, one for each month, and the final katha is for “adika,” the additional month that appears on the Hindu calendar every four years.
Every month’s vrat has a different story that is only recited throughout that month. According to Hindu traditions, Lord Shiva declared His son Sankashti, another name for Lord Ganesha, to be superior to all other Gods, with the exception of Vishnu, Lakshmi, and Parvati, on this holy day.

On the day of Sankashti Chaturthi, it is thought that Lord Ganesha grants His earthly presence to all of His devotees. The “Bhavishaya Purana” and the “Narasimha Purana” both highlight the significance of the Sankashti Chaturthi vrat, and Lord Krishna personally revealed it to Yudhishtira, the eldest of all the Pandavas.
