Sankashti Chaturthi: October 2022, Date, Tithi Time, Date List

As per drik panchang, this day is observed each and every month on the fourth day (Chaturthi Tithi) of Krishna Paksha.

Sankashti Chaturthi is regarded as the most auspicious day and is devoted to worshiping Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is also known as Mangal Murti and Vighna Harta and this Sankashti Chaturthi is known as Vighnaraja Sankashti Chaturthi regarded as Vighnaraja Sankashti Chaturthi. As per drik panchang, this day is observed each and every month on the fourth day (Chaturthi Tithi) of Krishna Paksha. This month, Vighnaraja Sankashti Chaturthi will be celebrated on Thursday, 14th October 2022 in the month of Ashwina. 

The Sankashti puja is carried out in the evening, after seeing the moon. During the puja, the idol of Lord Ganesha is adorned with flowers. A lamp is also lit in front of the idol. The devotees then read the ‘Vrat Katha particular to the month. The fast is opened after worshipping Lord Ganesha and seeing the moon in the evening. Naivedya comprising modaks and different favorite eatables of Lord Ganesha is prepared as an offering on this occasion.

Sankashti Chaturthi: Rituals

  1. The devotees wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes.
  2. Place an idol of Lord Ganesha and sprinkle some gangajal.
  3. Light a diya, put tilak of kumkum and haldi, offer yellow vermillion or flowers and Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweets (Laddo and Modak).
  4. The devotees do not forget to offer Durva Grass (Green Grass) as this is Lord Ganesha’s favourite herb.
  5. Recite the Bindayak katha (Lord Ganesh Katha) and Aarti to Lord Ganesha (Jai Ganesh Deva).
  6. People who cannot observe fast, can visit the temple and offer Laddo and Modak to Lord Ganesha.
