The monarch married with great pomp and circumstance. However, even after many years of marriage, he had no children. The king and queen were frequently concerned about who would perform their final rituals and the tarpan of their ancestors after their deaths. The monarch used to devote his entire day to contemplating this. One day, the distressed monarch rode his horse into the wilderness. After some time, he reached the centre of the dense forest. He approached the pond to quench his thirst after a lengthy journey. He observed an ashram where sages resided.
After consuming water, the king went to an ashram where he witnessed rishis reciting the Vedas. When the monarch asked why the Vedas were being recited, the sages informed him that today is Putrada Ekadashi. Those who fast and worship Lord Vishnu on this day are rewarded with a son. Upon hearing this, the king was elated and vowed to observe the Putrada Ekadashi fast at the same time. On Putrada Ekadashi, the monarch fasted and worshipped Gopal, Vishnu’s child avatar. The following day, on Dwadashi, the queen gave birth to a baby male. From that point forward, the couple began to observe the Shravana Putrada Ekadashi vrat.
According to ancient texts, devotees should fast on this day in order to conceive children and ensure the longevity of their progeny. By observing the fast of Shravana Putrada Ekadashi, one can remove obstacles from one’s existence and ensure the longevity of one’s children. If you observe the fast with the uttermost sincerity on this day, child-related problems may be resolved. Couples who wish to abstain from having children or to be celibate must observe this fast. If the couple fasts together, the fast will soon yield fruit. Those who diligently read or listen to the significance and story of the fast receive a blessing equivalent to the donation of several animals.
In Hindu culture, Parana signifies the end of a 24-hour fast. It must be completed prior to the conclusion of Dwadashi Tithi. To perform Parana, one must wait until Hari Vasara ends, as it cannot be conducted during this unfavourable phase (Hari Vasara). The fast should not be broken in the midst of the day. The ideal time to break this 24-hour fast is early the following morning. If for some reason you are unable to break your fast in the morning, you may do so after noon. Many devotees also observe Ekadashi by fasting for two consecutive days with their families. Widows and those seeking moksha are advised by ancient texts to observe a second-day fast.
