Skanda Sashti Rituals and Significance
Skanda Sashti is a six-day celebration honouring Lord Murugan or Skanda, the offspring of Lord Shiva and Parvati. In South India, particularly Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, it is observed during the Tamil month of Aippasi (October-November). Skanda Sashti is observed to commemorate the victory of Lord Murugan over the demon Tarakasura. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma granted Tarakasura the ability to be killed only by the son of Lord Shiva.
