According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Ganesha is known as the remover of all obstacles because he is Pratham Pujya, the first God to be worshipped. He has a high IQ, and whoever worships him receives all happiness and prosperity. Lord Ganesha is known by numerous names, including Mangal Murti, Gauri Nandan, Ganpati, and Vinayak. The Rigveda contains references to Ganapati dating back hundreds of years, attesting to India’s ties to the festival. According to historian Shri Rajwade, the earliest Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations extend back to the Satavahana, Rashtrakuta, and Chalukya dynasties.
The great Maratha ruler Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja initiated Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Maharashtra to promote culture and nationalism, according to historical accounts.
