National Black Cow Day 2023: Date, History, Facts about Ice cream Soda

The black bovine was created by Cripple Creek, Colorado native Frank J. Wisner. He owned the Cripple Creek Cow Mountain Gold Mining Corporation.

National Black Cow Day is annually observed on June 10, the ideal time to celebrate a chilled and refreshing beverage as the weather begins to warm up. Numerous individuals also recognise the black cow as the modest root beer float or ice cream soda. Some individuals even substitute chocolate ice cream for vanilla ice cream, creating a “brown cow.”

The background of National Black Cow Day

All ages enjoy a black cow, a beverage consisting of root beer and vanilla ice cream.

The black bovine was created by Cripple Creek, Colorado native Frank J. Wisner. He owned the Cripple Creek Cow Mountain Gold Mining Corporation. He came up with the idea for the root beer float while pondering the carbonated waters being produced for Cripple Creek residents. While gazing out his window, he noticed the full moon gleaming on the snow-capped Cow Mountain, which reminded him of vanilla ice cream. This prompted him to add a dollop of vanilla ice cream to Myers Avenue Red Root Beer, a children’s soda. When he took his first swig of the beverage, he realised he was on to something wonderful. Local children shortened the name of his invention to ‘black cow’ after he named it Black Cow Mountain.

Over time, not only infants but also adults have developed a taste for this simple but delicious drink. It is also available at a number of quick food restaurants. The black cow can be served with ease at house parties and potluck banquets.

On National Black Cow Day, prepare and enjoy this simple cocktail. Summer is the best time to savour this refreshing beverage to beat the oppressive heat.
