The background of National Blueberry Popsicle Day

Popsicles are also commonly referred to as ice pop, frozen pop, ice lolly, and ice block. Due to its immense popularity, Popsicle has become a generic term in the United States. The term Popsicle has been used interchangeably with the frozen delicacy since the 1920s.

Frank Epperson, an eleven-year-old boy, was the inventor of popsicles. On a cold night in the winter of 1905, he accidentally left a fruit drink with a stirring stick on his veranda. By morning, the ice pop had been created. 18 years later, the name ‘epsicle’ was altered to ‘popsicle’ to honour Frank’s invention. By forming a partnership with the Joe Lowe company in New York, Frank began distributing these frozen treats across the nation. The greatest mishap ever? We believe so!

Since then, popsicles have been a popular summertime treat for combating the humidity. In 1989, following the acquisition of the company by Unilever, the Popsicle brand was established with a variety of tropical flavours. Even though cherry popsicles are the most popular, we are currently on the blueberry team.
