National Healthy Fats Day 2023: Date, History, Sources

In some form, fats have existed for centuries. Fat is a nonvolatile substance derived from plants or animals that is insoluble in water and feels oily or greasy to the contact.

National Healthy Fats Day is annually observed on March 21. Frequently, fats are dreaded and misunderstood. The “Say No To Fats” narrative causes individuals to avoid fats and overeat other foods, such as sugar and carbohydrates. The truth is that the body requires a moderate amount of everything, including lipids.

The background of National Healthy Fats Day

In some form, fats have existed for centuries. Fat is a nonvolatile substance derived from plants or animals that is insoluble in water and feels oily or greasy to the contact. Humans have used fats for food and other purposes, such as apparatus lubrication, since prehistoric times, and fats have always been an important substance. Eventually, however, fats became associated with excessive weight gain and health issues, and society adopted a “fats are bad” perspective. In spite of the fact that excessive fat consumption is detrimental to health, it is vital to consume lipids in moderation.

Fats, along with carbohydrates and proteins, are one of the three main macronutrient groups in the human diet and are the primary constituents of common foods like milk, butter, and cooking oils. They are a rich and concentrated source of nutritional energy and serve vital structural and metabolic functions in the majority of living organisms, such as energy storage, waterproofing, and thermal insulation. The human body can produce the fat it needs from other dietary components; however, a few essential fatty acids must be consumed for complete nutritional satisfaction.

National Healthy Fats Day was established to increase awareness of the significance of fat in our diets and to provide a forum for discussion of the facts and myths surrounding fat. National Healthy Fats Day is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about healthy fats and raise awareness about them!
