In 1976, an alternative variation of nachos was introduced at Arlington Stadium during a Texas Rangers baseball game. This variation featured the now-familiar cheese dressing. Howard Cosell, an iconic ABC sportscaster, coined the term “nachos” during a Monday Night Football game two years later, thereby contributing to the Americanization of this comparatively uncomplicated cuisine.

“The International Nacho Festival” is still observed annually in October in Piedras Negras, and features live music, art, cultural activities, and a “giant nacho” competition.
