When it comes to raisins, there are typically two categories of people: those who adore them, and those who believe they ruin an otherwise excellent cinnamon bagel. Whether you find these leathery fruits irresistible or believe they should have remained in the sun where they were found, it is impossible to deny the impact they have had on history, popular culture, and cuisine. On 30 April, we celebrate National Raisin Day.
Raisins appear throughout history and literature as a nutritious, portable snack enjoyed by everyone from the Egyptians to George Washington.
Those little crimson sultana boxes are, of course, a classic symbol of childhood.
The background of National Raisin Day
Perhaps. Raisins can contain as much as 72 percent sugar by weight, making them a sweet and satiating nibble. But unlike jellybeans, raisins are have some nutritional value. They are rich in cancer-fighting antioxidants, an exceptional source of fibre, and cholesterol-free.Raisins and oatmeal cookies are one of the best culinary pairings, but there are many others. The most apparent? Cereal, as long as it is not already overly sweetened. Rugelach, cinnamon raisin bread, rum raisin ice cream and trail mix are additional fan favourites.Over fifty percent of the world’s raisins are grown in California. Selma, located southeast of Fresno, is the state’s sultana capital, despite the fact that Napa is renowned worldwide for its wine vines. This region generates more than 350 thousand tonnes of raisins annually.

NATIONAL RAISIN DAY ACTIVITIES
Consume sweets at every supper
Why not have cinnamon pastries with raisins for breakfast? Make a lovely Waldorf salad for lunch, but substitute sun-dried grapes for the fresh ones. Why not conclude the meal with a small portion of bread pudding?
Create one’s own
You only need grapes from the local supermarket and sunny, dry conditions. First, obtain red or green grapes and remove their sizable stems. Next, place the grapes on a rack and expose them to sunlight for several days. Place the shrivelled grapes in a hermetic container, and you’ll have a snack with the same name!
Watch the 1998 film “Meet the Raisins”
The animated programme was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Programme. Then, why not make it an all-out Raisin-a-Thon, followed by the sequel “Raisins: Sold Out!” Don’t overlook the raisins!
