Although the exquisite creation soared in popularity and cost only a nickel, it was exclusively sold on Sundays.

2.Mron Sonntag, a druggist from Plainfield, Illinois, invented the cuisine in 1890 in response to a customer’s request for something unique. Since Sonntag translates to Sunday in German, he named it the “sonntag” after himself. The name was subsequently rendered “sundae.”

3. On April 3, 1892 (a Sunday), in Ithaca, New York, John M. Scott, a minister, and Chester Platt, co-owner of a pharmacy, invented the first sundae. Platt coated ice cream dishes with cherry syrup and candied cherries. The males designated the entrée “Cherry Sunday.” Three days later, historians discovered an advertisement for a “Cherry Sunday” in the Ithaca Daily Journal.
