Ed Currie, the proprietor of Puckerbutt Pepper Company in South Carolina, cultivates Pepper X. Additionally, he developed the Carolina Reaper, which held the record in 2013.

Guinness stated on its website, “Ed cultivated Pepper X on his farm for over a decade, cross-breeding it with some of his hottest peppers to increase its capsaicin content.”

Pepper X was initially unveiled to the world by Currie in an episode of the popular YouTube series “Hot Ones.”

“Those who disregard the Reaper’s dread are fools.” A description of the dethroned pepper on the website of the Puckerbutt Pepper Company states, “It is excruciatingly hot.”

Unknown at this time is the description of the pepper that has a Scoville scale rating one million units higher than that of the Reaper.
