Numerous religious texts contain references to the practise of mercy dating back thousands of years. It may appear to be a difficult task, but it solely entails letting go of anger, hurt, and vengeance.
The 26th of June is celebrated as Forgiveness Day. This day should not be confounded with Global Forgiveness Day on July 7, which is an offshoot of Forgiveness Day. The day was founded by The Christian Embassy of Christ’s Ambassadors (CECA) in 1994. It was established in accordance with the Christian teachings on forgiveness, which state that we should always absolve those who wrong us. Even in the secular world, however, forgiveness has different meanings for different individuals, and today is the day to let go of old grudges and forgive those who have wronged us.

Each religion, from the Bible to the Quran, contains specific stories and teachings about the act of forgiving and the impact it can have on our lives and the lives of others. Christ forgives from the cross in the Bible. Buddhist, Hindu, and Jewish theologies and philosophies contain some of the earliest representations of forgiveness. Recently, a great deal of research has been conducted on the physical and psychological effects of forgiveness, particularly in the disciplines of psychology, sociology, and medicine.
Many mental health benefits have been linked to forgiveness, including reduced tension, anger, depression, and state anxiety. Forgiveness promotes positive relational health, including enhanced social support and marital quality. It also results in numerous physical health benefits, such as reduced blood pressure and enhanced cardiovascular health. The director of the Stanford University Forgiveness Project, Dr. Frederic Luskin, initiated his research in the field of forgiveness. His findings demonstrated that forgiveness training helped individuals feel considerably less pain. He noted that they could learn techniques for forgiving both specific and general resentment, as well as the individual who had caused them grief. His 2003 follow-up study revealed that six months after forgiveness training, the mental benefits were still present.
