Frequently, bladder cancer begins in the urothelial cells that line the interior of the bladder. Some tumours may expand into the deeper layers of the organ, although the majority of tumours develop on the inner layer of the bladder.
Bladder Cancer Awareness Day is annually observed on May 7. On this day, programmes are organised to inform the public about the symptoms, causes, and treatment options for this type of cancer. Bladder cancer is the tenth most prevalent malignancy worldwide. Each year, approximately 57,000 men and 18,000 women are diagnosed with the disease in the United States. Bladder cancer is a serious concern, and there is a committed endeavour to improve the lives of patients who are afflicted with it.
Frequently, bladder cancer begins in the urothelial cells that line the interior of the bladder. Some tumours may expand into the deeper layers of the organ, although the majority of tumours develop on the inner layer of the bladder. As cancer spreads through layers of muscle wall, it becomes more difficult to treat. Urothelial cells are also present in the kidneys, ureters, and vessels connecting the kidneys and bladder. This indicates that the cancer has the potential to extend to the kidneys and ureters. However, this occurs less frequently.
Although radiological tests provide valuable information about the kidneys and ureters, cystoscopy is the most accurate method for diagnosing bladder cancer. Today, these diagnostic procedures are administered with minimal discomfort in a urologist’s office. During the cystoscopy, the urologist examines the bladder through the cystoscope, keeping an eye out for anything that may be aberrant.
When detected in its earliest stages, bladder cancer is highly curable. It is prudent to watch for symptoms. Symptoms of bladder cancer include, but are not limited to, blood in the urine, excruciating urination, an urgent need to urinate constantly, difficulty passing urine, abdominal pain, fatigue, lower back pain, and appetite loss. Some people may be more susceptible to developing bladder cancer. When it comes to bladder cancer, smoking, chemical exposure, Caucasians, old age, family history, and chronic bladder infection all play a role. Men are at a higher risk for bladder cancer, but the disease is also on the rise among women.
