GOAL Mile 2023: GOAL Mile is held all through December in different parts of Ireland and the world, but most people enjoy it on December 25, which is Christmas Day. It’s one of the most anticipated events in Ireland every year, and many Irish families do it every Christmas. People and towns all over the country put on GOAL Mile events. In 1982, Noel Carroll, who was head of GOAL Global, asked people in the area to run a mile at Phoenix Park on Christmas morning to raise money for the group. Since then, it has been done every year.
John O’Shea started GOAL in 1977 to mitigate poverty and be one of the first groups to respond to humanitarian disasters. Now, the group works in more than 60 countries. Additionally, it helps groups get through crises and then recovers afterward. “GOAL believes in a world where poverty no longer exists, where vulnerable communities are strong, where barriers to well-being are taken away, and where everyone has the same rights and opportunities,” the group says.
