At the conclusion of World War II, the medical and healthcare industry in the United States underwent massive transformations. Numerous hospitals were inundated with patients, leaving nurses and doctors with an enormous burden and a difficult time performing their duties competently.
The celebration of Health Unit Coordinators Day on August 23 reminds us of the importance of collaboration in medical facilities and the necessity of health unit coordinators. They assist the medical personnel by carrying out a variety of tasks, such as checking in patients and preparing birth certificates. Without health unit coordinators, hospitals would be unable to traverse even the most fundamental health care procedures.
Hospitals and other health care facilities are enormous organisations that rely on hundreds of physicians, nurses, technicians, maintenance personnel, facilities coordinators, and administrative staff to collaborate effectively so that the hospital functions like a well-oiled machine. On Health Unit Coordinators Day, remember these diligent individuals who keep our health information and demands on track.
At the conclusion of World War II, the medical and healthcare industry in the United States underwent massive transformations. Numerous hospitals were inundated with patients, leaving nurses and doctors with an enormous burden and a difficult time performing their duties competently.
To allow nurses to focus solely on patient care, health unit coordinators were established. These employees have become indispensable and have facilitated immense improvements in the operation of medical facilities.
Historically, health unit coordinators were known as ”floor clerks,” ”hospital secretaries,” or ”ward clerks.” Soon, they developed a permanent position within hospitals and shifted from accomplishing administrative tasks to managing and coordinating activities and units.
As time has passed, health unit coordinators have had an irreversible impact on America. With 4.11 million employees, the medical administrative workforce is a formidable force. They organise charts, transcribe physicians’ orders, and assist at the nursing station on a daily basis. Ultimately, they manage and coordinate numerous responsibilities associated with the operation of the hospitals and medical facilities in which they reside. Without them, institutions would have difficulty navigating their complex daily operations.
Health unit coordinators may not always be in the spotlight, but their labour is essential and deserves recognition, so August 23 is designated as their day.
HUCs manage all hospital nursing unit telephone communication.
HUCs are trained to greet patients and attend to their concerns or requests.
The initial hourly wage of a HUC is typically between $10.50 and $14.00.
The U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS) reported that the average annual salary for medical secretaries is $37,090.
Four out of five HUC’s who rated their job satisfaction online were ”extremely satisfied”
