International Universal Health Coverage Day 2023: The United Nations established International Universal Health Coverage Day as a global celebration on December 12. The purpose of the holiday is to encourage universal access to high-quality, reasonably priced healthcare. It should be everyone’s basic human right to have access to reasonably priced medical care. The U.N. is requesting a change because this is not the situation at the moment.
For a very long time, the United Nations has made it their mission to speak up for people who are frequently ignored or lack a voice. International Universal Health Coverage Day advocates for universal access to affordable healthcare. The purpose of this holiday is to promote the notion that everyone has the right to healthcare. Since access to healthcare is a fundamental human right, it is a call for all nations to support their citizens equally and to leave no one behind.
Declared a holiday in 2017, December 12 is the day it is observed every year. The World Bank Group, Oxfam, Save the Children, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the World Health Organization (WHO) are their partners. The UN is working on several initiatives to promote human rights, this being just one of them.
In 2015, universal health coverage was added to the list of Sustainable Development Goals. A “more sustainable future for all” is one of the 17 objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals. These objectives were established in 2015 to accomplish them by 2030. Reduced inequality, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice, and strong institutions, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, and partnerships for the goals are among them.
