They can be given through an IV or by giving yourself a shot at home.
National Biologic Coordinators Day 2023: The first of November is National Biologic Coordinators Day, and we are all excited to celebrate it with lots of fun and excitement. It can be hard to start and stick with biological treatment as recommended, but biological coordinators make it very easy for patients. Their unwavering support and hard work make it easy for people to get the biological treatments they need. Any person who works in an office of a medical practice and helps people get given biologic medications is called a biologic coordinator.
A lot of exciting progress was made in biological study all over the world in the 1800s. Robert Koch did research in Germany and found the bacteria that cause cholera, anthrax, rabies, and TB. Louis Pasteur researched bacteria that cause fermentation and spoilage, and he created the first vaccine for chicken cholera in a lab. Bacteriologists in the United States, including Theobald Smith and Edmund Salmon, came up with the idea of heat-killed vaccines.
With this research came talk about the need to regulate, standardize, and quality control new biological products. However, these steps weren’t taken until a five-year-old girl died in the hospital from tetanus she got after being given diphtheria antitoxin that came from a horse that had tetanus. Soon, nine more kids in New Jersey died from the tainted smallpox vaccine. This made it clear that strict rules had to be put in place for new biological goods.
The Biologics Control Act, which was signed by Theodore Roosevelt on July 1, 1902, said that businesses that made or sold vaccines, serums, antitoxins, and other similar goods had to get a license every year. The Hygienic Laboratory of the Public Health and Marine Hospital Service was in charge of keeping an eye on biological goods at the federal level. After the Hygenic Laboratory became the National Institutes of Health, the FDA took over oversight duties until 1972, when they were given to the NIH.
Biologic managers work hard to keep people healthy. Find out what they’ve done and why it’s important that they play a part.
Thank the biologic organizers for their work. Thank them for their hard work and let them know how they’ve helped you or someone you care about.
Get the word out about what biologic organizers do. Tell everyone what they do and how it has changed people’s lives.
