The background of National Concussion Awareness Day

The Brain Injury Association of America recognises National Concussion Awareness Day. The day has been registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In the United States, concussions are swiftly becoming a plague, with more cases of mild traumatic brain injuries occurring each year.

Traumatic brain injuries are head injuries or injuries to a portion of the skull caused by damage to the brain caused by an external mechanical force, a stroke, or an infection. As a mild form of traumatic brain injury, concussion is a head injury that momentarily impairs brain function.

Concussions, regardless of their severity if left undiagnosed and untreated, are easily disregarded, necessitating an immediate and comprehensive evaluation by a qualified medical provider to rule out life-threatening head injuries or other system injuries. The symptoms of a concussion can last up to two weeks and include mood changes and peculiar emotional displays.

The purpose of National Concussion Awareness Day is to provide a forum for healthcare professionals, carers, and concussion victims to discuss this issue openly. The objective is also to increase the dissemination of information about the case in order to educate the general public.
