It was founded in 2008 by Nathan Kottkamp, a healthcare attorney based in Virginia, to provide clear, concise, and consistent information on healthcare decision-making to both the public and providers/facilities through the widespread availability and dissemination of simple, free, and standardised tools to guide the process.
The day is all-inclusive and draws together members of the larger healthcare, legal, and religious communities to collaborate on a project for the benefit of patients, families, and providers. These entities collaborate to ensure that the information, opportunity, and access required to document healthcare decisions are available.
