An animal that was on the verge of death had previously received a blood transfusion using the blood of another animal.

Another pivotal point in the history of IV therapy occurred in 1900 when Karl Landsteiner established a theory and demonstrated that human blood could be divided into four categories, which are still in use today: A, B, AB, and O classifications.
