The annual Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity occurs on the third Tuesday of October, which falls on October 17 this year. It is a day to observe silence in memory of the children whose voices have been silenced by abortion.
The Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity was founded by Bryan Kemper in 2004. According to his account, a McNeese State University student asked, “What can I do to work in solidarity with other students across the country to help end abortion?” A lightbulb went off in Kemper’s mind, and he had the idea of rallying students to stand in solidarity not only with others, but also with the daily lives lost to abortion.
On this day, students and others are encouraged to wear red duct tape bearing the word “life” and to remain mute in solidarity with aborted children. To convey the purpose of the day without breaking their silence, participants distribute flyers that explain why they are remaining silent and what pro-life day is all about.
Kemper got the idea to use duct tape when he was speaking at an event and some young people strolled in with duct tape over their mouths; he later learned that they were supporters of the pro-life organisation Bound4LIFE.
Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity is sponsored by the anti-abortion Stand True organisation, which was also founded by Bryan Kemper. Today, tens of thousands of pupils of all ages across the United States celebrate the day.
