Ranchi: CIP commemorates World Brain Day for first time

Guest of honour Dr Anant Kumar talked of how with time the usage of our brain has changed and how much we are dependent on technology. He said it is important to be connected with one another in a physical manner.

The Central Institute of Psychiatry on Friday commemorated World Brain day on the theme this year, ‘A Musical Feast to Brain’

The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest of the day Prof Pradip Kumar Bala, Director, IIM Ranchi; and guest of honour Dr Anant Kumar, Associate Professor and head (Rural Management), XISS, Ranchi. Patron of the programme was Prof. (Dr) Basudeb Das, Director, CIP, Ranchi along with Somerita Mallik, President, Chhayanat, Kolkata.

Initially, the outline of the programme was given by Dr Dipanjan Bhattacharjee. While addressing the audience, Prof. (Dr.) Basudeb Das said that this is the first time World Brain Day is celebrated in CIP and this is the 10th year of celebrating World Brain Day.

Difference Between Brain and Spinal Cord

He emphasised on the importance of brain health. He also said, “Unless we remain healthy mentally, we will not be able to do justice to our society, country and world at large.” He also spoke about the importance of the prevention of brain disorders. He further provided a brief history of the poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and his beautiful creations.

The presidential address was given by Prof. Pradip Kumar Bala. He spoke about his passion for arts and music. He spoke about an individual’s soul, and also mentioned, “I am a human being first and music is close to my heart.” He further mentioned how music connects with the soul of an individual.

“We will decide our future. It is we who will train and prepare our brain and how it will function, ” Kumar added. He also made it a point to talk about the aged population of the country who are vulnerable to neurological problems.

The next scientific session proceeded with the first talk on the Literary Works of Kazi Nazrul Islam: A Sensitization Speech by Somerita Mallik, President, Chhayanat, Kolkata. The next talk was given by Music and Art Therapy: A new opening for keeping the brain healthy, by Dr Ujjawal Roy, Consultant Neurologist, Ranchi.

World Brain Tumor Day 2022: Date, different types of brain tumors

Dr Umesh S. Associate Professor, CIP later talked on Creative Brain: Neurophysiological Evidences. The programme then concluded with a valedictory speech by Dr Avinash Sharma, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, CIP, Ranchi, which marked the end of the day’s event.
