Ovarcome, a foundation for ovarian cancer, created Teal Talk Day to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and encourage people to discuss it. As there is currently no screening available, Ovarcome wants you to be aware of your symptoms and empowered.
Teal Talk Day is on September 23, and it is a day to raise women’s awareness of ovarian cancer. Each year, ovarian cancer affects approximately 249,000 individuals worldwide. On this day, everyone is encouraged to gather with their peers, dress in teal, and spend the day conversing. The purpose of Teal Talk Day is to educate women about the hazards of ovarian cancer and the importance of testing. Teal Talk, on the other hand, should occur every day of the year, not just on this one day.
Ovarcome, a foundation for ovarian cancer, created Teal Talk Day to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and encourage people to discuss it. As there is currently no screening available, Ovarcome wants you to be aware of your symptoms and empowered. You have the ability to save a life!
On February 23, 2012, Ovarcome was established as a company. In 2017, Ovarcome celebrated five years of service to the ovarian cancer community by initiating this national and international initiative. Ovarian cancer is a malady of silence, but Ovarcome urges you to SPEAK UP! Without a screening test, women and their families can combat the condition through education and awareness. Teal Talk Day provides this information and heightened awareness.
Jane Todd Crawford is the first person reported to have had an ovarian tumor removed. She has a 22-pound tumor extracted from her abdomen. An additional risk factor is having a family history of ovarian, breast, or colorectal cancer. Approximately half of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer are aged 63 or older.
According to research, women who have had a full-term pregnancy during their prime reproductive years and who use birth control medications are at a reduced risk; breastfeeding may also reduce the risk.
