The German Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted (D.B.S.V.) is a self-help organisation founded in 1912 with the mission of assisting and supporting those who suffer from maladies that cause vision loss or are at risk.
Visually Impaired Persons Day is observed annually on June 6. It aims to create supportive ecosystems for individuals with vision impairment or loss by bringing attention to their plight. The day also raises awareness about the feelings of isolation often experienced by visually impaired people and seeks to help others understand and empathise with their struggles.
The German Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted (D.B.S.V.) is a self-help organisation founded in 1912 with the mission of assisting and supporting those who suffer from maladies that cause vision loss or are at risk. It supports the development of vision-assisting devices, promotes inclusive education for partially sighted children, aids in the development of vision-support services, and raises awareness about the visually impaired community. The organisation represents more than 500,000 visually impaired and 150,000 blind individuals.
In 1998, the D.B.S.V initiated the first Visually Impaired People Day. Since its inception, Visually Impaired People Day has brought together sighted and visually impaired individuals to promote the exchange of ideas. The holiday enables visually impaired and blind individuals to express their concerns. It also enables these individuals to communicate their concerns to the D.B.S.V., allowing the organisation to concentrate on these areas.
Over the past two decades, Visually Impaired People Day has brought attention to issues such as education for the visually impaired, braille literacy, regulations regarding the use of assistance animals, and the development of devices that could assist visually impaired people in completing daily tasks. It has assisted the D.B.S.V. in focusing on areas of concern, implementing measures to meet the requirements of seniors who are visually impaired, and ensuring a brighter future for everyone challenged by vision-related issues.
