World Breast Cancer Research Day 2023: Date, History, Facts about Breast Cancer Research

In ancient Greece, around 3000 B.C., breast-shaped offerings were made to the deity of medicine, Asclepius. These were the earliest known indications of breast cancer.

The 18th of August is World Breast Cancer Research Day, a cause that we are proud to honour. There is physical and emotional suffering for those who are afflicted with breast cancer, as well as emotional turmoil for those who support their loved ones through this life-altering path. Today is more about the men and women who are doing everything in their power to combat this fatal disease than it is about those who have endured this harrowing ordeal.

The background of World Breast Cancer Research Day

In ancient Greece, around 3000 B.C., breast-shaped offerings were made to the deity of medicine, Asclepius. These were the earliest known indications of breast cancer.

Throughout history, numerous attempts have been made to comprehend and neutralise the breast cancer menace. As their ability to control their destinies ebbs away, people throughout history and the present turn to their faith and a higher power. Since the 1970s, however, breast cancer research and treatment have become increasingly effective, resulting in more accurate diagnoses, fewer fatalities, and more manageable treatments.

From a relatively undefined perspective in the 1960s, breast cancer has undergone a massive awareness campaign since then. As a result of this consistent and powerful message that has been and continues to be broadcast internationally, men and women around the world now understand the importance of regular health screenings.

The Dr. Susan Love Foundation designated this day as World Breast Cancer Research Day in May 2021 in order to not only bring awareness to the disease, but also to the amount of work and effort that has gone into understanding and treating this disease that affects so many people around the world.

The Dr. Susan Love Foundation is hopeful that World Breast Cancer Research Day will be a defining moment in history that allows us to attain a world without breast cancer.
