World Schizophrenia Awareness Day was created to combat stigma and make it simpler for people to seek assistance from a variety of resources. It typically begins to manifest in the early twenties, although in uncommon instances, symptoms may appear in early childhood. This disorder affects approximately 24 million individuals worldwide.
In the 1700s, descriptions of schizophrenics began to be recorded; this disease has existed since the dawn of civilization. Schizophrenia was not registered and recognised until the early 1900s, when psychiatrist Eugen Bleuler coined the term. However, proper treatment based on legitimate humane medical procedures was not adopted until 1980, when appropriate antipsychotic medication was introduced and a revolution in psychiatric treatment in general had already occurred.
