The background of World Vitiligo Day

Vitiligo has been mentioned in the writings of nearly all of the world’s major religions, and the earliest description of the condition extends back more than 3,000 years. End of the 19th century was a time of significant advancement in vitiligo knowledge. Doctors have observed that emotional tension triggers vitiligo flare-ups. They also observed that none of the treatments available at the time had a significant impact on the disease. World Vitiligo Day relocated its headquarters from Rome to Detroit in 2013. Over the years, the movement has expanded from a handful of volunteers to 484,687 activists and more than 50 clinics offering free skin exams in 17 countries. Numerous events are being presented on every continent. A second component of the awareness campaign assists those with vitiligo in overcoming their insecurities.
