This year, recognize India’s aviation industry and the air force personnel who have spent countless years ensuring the nation’s safety.

The background of Indian Air Force Day

As with every other air force in the globe, the Indian Air Force required substantial training to excel on the battlefield. However, the officers’ perseverance ensured that the force achieved success and became one of the world’s strongest. When the Indian Air Force was officially constituted, it had six officers trained by the Royal Air Force and 19 air soldiers. There were four Westland Wapiti IIA army cooperation biplanes in their inventory. This paled in comparison to the formidable air forces of dozens of other nations.

A flight, however, departed for North Waziristan to assist the Indian Army in its fight against insurgent Bhittani tribesmen, approximately four years later. In April 1936, a “B” Flight was established on the vintage Wapiti, and in 1938, a “C” Flight was raised to ostensibly bring the No. 1 Squadron to full strength. By the time World War II began, the Indian Air Force’s strength had significantly increased.

RAF (Royal Air Force) flight instructors were assigned to flying clubs in India after 1941 to provide training to volunteers and interested individuals. Seven organizations in British India and two princely states provided instruction. The Chatfield Committee reevaluated India’s defense issues in 1939, prompting the implementation of all of these measures. Nonetheless, years of training and increased government funding for the air force culminated in the squadrons becoming among the most proficient aviators globally.
