The background of Nail Day

Nail care is not something novel. Manuscripts from the Ming Dynasty contain historical accounts of the use of nail lacquer in 3000 B.C. Approximately 5,000 years ago, people in Babylon had manicures. China created the first nail varnish in history. In 3000 B.C., they utilised a mixture of beeswax, egg whites, gelatine, and dyes extracted from flower blossoms. In China, roses and orchids were fashionable nail polish colours. Additionally, these ornaments indicated a person’s affluence and social standing. In the past, crimson nails were common among the wealthy across the globe.

In the 1920s, French makeup artist Michelle Menard introduced glossy nail varnish. Later, in 1932, Revlon introduced the modern iteration of nail polish and democratised manicures. The false nails were discovered by accident. Fred Slack, a dentist, developed the first realistic-looking artificial nail in 1954. Over time, he improved the invention and patented a successful version. That marked the beginning of a manicure revolution that continues to this day by redefining designs.
