Nail care is not something novel. Manuscripts from the Ming Dynasty contain historical accounts of the use of nail lacquer in 3000 B.C. Approximately 5,000 years ago, people in Babylon had manicures. They did so with gold instruments.
On May 5, we celebrate Nail Day. Today is the day to adorn your manicures with vibrant acrylic colours and precise shapes. Do you have long nails that require colouring, or do you prefer to wear artificial nails with the smoothest and most eye-catching hues? Therefore, today is a day to celebrate. Elegant Touch, a manufacturer of artificial nails, established this day to honour acrylic nails. Over time, however, it evolved into a day dedicated to the most elaborate nail art. This year, we will assist you in learning more about the day and how to make the most of it.
Nail care is not something novel. Manuscripts from the Ming Dynasty contain historical accounts of the use of nail lacquer in 3000 B.C. Approximately 5,000 years ago, people in Babylon had manicures. They did so with gold instruments. It was predominantly something affiliated with nobles. In numerous civilizations across the globe, nail colour was used to denote social status. In Egypt, those with the highest social status painted their fingernails crimson to signify the same. Even military commanders adorned their hands with nail polish. Before nail varnish, Indians decorated their nails with henna plant pigments. Henna yields a brownish-red pigment that lasts for several days.
China created the first nail varnish in history. In 3000 B.C., they utilised a mixture of beeswax, egg whites, gelatine, and dyes extracted from flower blossoms. In China, roses and orchids were fashionable nail polish colours. Additionally, these ornaments indicated a person’s affluence and social standing. In the past, crimson nails were common among the wealthy across the globe.
In the 1920s, French makeup artist Michelle Menard introduced glossy nail varnish. Later, in 1932, Revlon introduced the modern iteration of nail polish and democratised manicures. The false nails were discovered by accident. Fred Slack, a dentist, developed the first realistic-looking artificial nail in 1954. Over time, he improved the invention and patented a successful version. That marked the beginning of a manicure revolution that continues to this day by redefining designs.
