National First Day of Peel Season 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

The origins of beauty treatments for the epidermis date back to Ancient Egypt. It was customary to use black-kohl eyeliner and eyeshadows in dark hues such as blue, red, and black.

National First Day of Peel Season is celebrated annually on September 7 to honour healthy epidermis. Beginning of autumn is the optimal time for peels and other thorough exfoliation treatments. Because there is less sun exposure to worry about, stronger enzyme peels and chemical peels can be performed during this season. These treatments remove the sun-damaged layers of summer skin to reveal the enviable radiance of autumn. This season also precedes the severe winter months, during which the skin becomes too dry or damaged for a peel. Peel season is a period of renewal and improvement for the skin.

The background of National First Day of Peel Season

The origins of beauty treatments for the epidermis date back to Ancient Egypt. It was customary to use black-kohl eyeliner and eyeshadows in dark hues such as blue, red, and black. These customs were frequently documented and represented in Egyptian art and hieroglyphs.

Geishas in Japan used pieces of ‘bintsuke’ wax as a foundation for their makeup. Geishas would occasionally use bird droppings to produce a lighter hue. In the sixteenth century, women in Europe bled themselves to attain the beauty standard of the time, pale skin. According to some accounts, Spanish prostitutes donned pink cosmetics to contrast their pale skin.

During the Middle Ages, cosmetics were still used to make the face pale and the cheekbones red. Regarding skin exfoliation, ancient Egyptians used alabaster (a soft white stone) to scrape their skin. They administered topical solutions containing oils, acids, and sodium. The Romans and Greeks began with pumice stone and resin before progressing to sulphur for more powerful results.

Gipsy populations were responsible for the chemical peel. Their early experiments led to the phenol peel, a medical-grade resurfacing procedure that occasionally necessitates a general anaesthesia. In the 19th century, skin treatments gained popularity. It was owing to the Austrian dermatologist Ferdinand Hebra, founder of the Vienna School of Dermatology, who led a sharp increase in experimentation. Before the tincture (a chemical-alcohol mixture) became the prototype for the modern chemical peel, he experimented with a number of methods (including frightening experiments with lime and nitric acid).

Peels for the skin are highly refined at present, as absorption rates, penetration, and aftereffects continue to advance. The skin peel is safer and more effective than ever before due to ongoing efforts to reduce trauma while improving results.
