National Go Barefoot Day 2023: Date, History, Facts about Shoes

In 2004, a tragic tsunami catastrophe in the Indian Ocean impacted a large number of people negatively and drove them into poverty. Soles4Souls created National Go Barefoot Day in an effort to assist these victims.

National Go Barefoot Day is on June 1, and this is an opportunity for us not only to experience the sensation of walking barefoot but also to donate to a charity that aims to provide shoes to underprivileged children. Often, we are unaware of how fortunate we are to have something as basic as shoes. It is imperative that on this day we recognise our privilege and give to those in need.

The background of National Go Barefoot Day

In 2004, a tragic tsunami catastrophe in the Indian Ocean impacted a large number of people negatively and drove them into poverty. Soles4Souls created National Go Barefoot Day in an effort to assist these victims.

While barefoot walking is liberating and helps us connect with nature, shoes offer a multitude of benefits and are highly functional. It would be optimal if every person on earth owned at least one pair of shoes for daily use.

The primary objective of this charitable day is to encourage the donation of new or used footwear to be distributed to those in need who are without footwear. Instead of disposing your worn-out shoes, wouldn’t it be preferable to give them to someone who could actually benefit from them? We underestimate the impact that a pair of usable shoes can have on a homeless person. Many individuals are unable to attend employment or school because they lack shoes. Donating shoes will not only aid in the resolution of this issue, but it will also prevent your shoes from ending up in landfills.

Since the inception of this cause, over 40,500,000 pairs of shoes have been donated across the globe, a level of support that is unprecedented and overwhelming. Through the simple act of donating a pair of shoes, individuals are encouraged to aid and bring happiness to another person’s life.
