National Parents’ Day 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

Parents are nature's finest gift to us. There is nothing that can even come close to replacing them in our lives. Parents play a crucial role in the development of a child's existence.

Where would we be without our parents, who loved us before our birth? They do so much for us every day of our youth, and their affection for us does not end when we become adults. Therefore, it is appropriate to honour them on their special day, National Parents’ Day on July 23, the fourth Sunday of July.

While Mother’s Day and Father’s Day were first celebrated officially in the early 1900s (and National Grandpa Day is approaching its 40th anniversary), National Parents’ Day was not established until 1994. At that time, President Bill Clinton signed a Congressional Resolution “recognising, elevating, and supporting the parental role in childrearing.” Well said!

The background of National Parents’ Day

Parents are nature’s finest gift to us. There is nothing that can even come close to replacing them in our lives. Parents play a crucial role in the development of a child’s existence. The purpose of National Parents’ Day is to encourage responsible parenthood and positive reinforcement of children by parents. The day also recognises the sacrifices made by parents and the unbreakable bond between parents and children.

In 1994, President Bill Clinton signed the Congressional Resolution that established National Parents’ Day as a legal holiday. The law was introduced by Republican Senator Trent Lott in an effort to “…elevate and support the role of parents in childrearing.”

National Parents’ Day is appropriately observed in July, given that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are observed in May and June, respectively. Every year on the fourth Sunday of July, citizens, educational institutions, federal- and local governments, legislative bodies, and organisations observe National Parents’ Day. Activities and events are held to recognise, elevate, and support the parental role in childrearing.

Essentially, the Parents’ Day Council promotes the holiday through ceremonies. This is exemplified by the Parents of the Year award, which recognises those who set an exemplary local, state, and national standard for positive parenting.

NATIONAL PARENTS’ DAY ACTIVITIES

Contact or see them

Parents enjoy visits from their children and grandchildren. And let’s face it, they won’t be around eternally, despite our hopes to the contrary. We should express our appreciation for our parents.

Tell them they’re correct

As we grow older, our parents are constantly imparting unsolicited wisdom and counsel. As children, we frequently disregard or neglect these realities. When we become adults and have children of our own, we realise that our parents were correct about virtually everything.

Give them a vacation for the vacation

Determine where your parents have always desired to vacation, and send them there. Take care of every detail so that your loved ones only need to arrive at the airport or cruise ship terminal.

Unprepared for these 5 parenting realities

No matter how well you prepare, there is no foolproof method to be a successful parent; there will be days when you question whether you made the right decision.

Your idiosyncrasies and mannerisms will be mirrored in your children; as time passes, you’ll begin to see more and more of yourself in them, which will make you want to be a better person.

It’s a bitter pill to take, and it’s a gradual process, but you’ll eventually say the same things your parents did when they were younger.

Your Netflix will be filled with children’s programming and animated films, but you won’t object.

Whether it is a milestone your child has reached or a setback, you will experience the same emotions tenfold.
