104-Year-Old Skydiver Passes Away: On Monday, the 104-year-old Chicagoan woman who established the world record for the eldest skydiver a week ago died peacefully at home. By leaping from an aircraft at Skydive Chicago Airport on October 1, Dorothy Hoffner established the Guinness World Record for the oldest tandem parachute jump. The Guinness World Record for the oldest skydiver was previously established in May 2022 by Linnea Ingegard Larsson of Sweden, who is 103 years old.
In Ottawa, Illinois, approximately 140 kilometres (85 miles) southwest of Chicago, she proclaimed to a jubilant audience, “Age is nothing but a number.” Notably, Hoffner underwent her inaugural paragliding experience at the age of one hundred.
Hoffner remarked, “Wonderful,” regarding her experience.“But it was wonderful up there. The whole thing was delightful, wonderful, couldn’t have been better.”
“There was nothing scary about it. It was nice and peaceful” she reported to the Chicago Sun-Times.
According to the Metro News, Hoffner’s body was discovered by staff at the Brookdale Lake View senior living community. The date of her death is presumed to be Sunday evening.
The Skydive Chicago and US Parachute Association expressed their gratitude that Hoffner’s final dive marked the conclusion of her “exciting, well-lived life.”
Hoffner, as reported by the Associated Press, intended to board a hot-air balloon flight thereafter. The expected date of her 105th birthday was December.
Tuesday, the nurse, who had known Hoffner for approximately five years, reported that the cause of death is unknown.
