Airline’s ‘Contract of Carriage’ Falls Short in Rainy Conditions!

Herb Gingold, a News 6 viewer, sought assistance from Make Ends Meet after an airline denied his request for $627 to cover the cost of 250 confidential business brochures “sitting in water.”

When the morning flight from Orlando to Denver took off from OIA, there was heavy rain. Gingold hypothesised that the luggage was left in the shower and struck by lightening outside the baggage compartment.

When he arrived at the hotel, the pamphlets he had carried with him to Denver were water-damaged. Southwest Airlines declined to compensate him for the damage, citing a provision in the contract of carriage.

According to the DOT, all domestic US carriers are required to comply. Medicine, keys, passport, travel tickets, and business documents are just some of the items listed on the agency’s website as items that “should never be placed in checked luggage.” Check out the tweet below:

Following a request from News 6, the airline credited Gingold’s account with $627. A Southwest representative wrote in an email, “You are a valued Customer, and we look forward to serving you again in the future.”
