In 2021, while competing for Chip Ganassi competing at Barber Motorsports Park, he won his first IndyCar race and became a household name. Palou became the first Spaniard to capture the championship owing to his consistent play throughout the season.
In September 2022, McLaren announced Palou’s appointment with the company for their Previous car testing programme. As part of this programme, he put the MCL35M through its tests first at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and then in October at the Red Bull Ring with Pato O’Ward.
