Case Specifics

The 1997 homicide around Allen Blackthorne in Florida is widely regarded as one of the most abhorrent and notorious in the annals of American history. Amidst a dispute over child custody, the prosperous businessman Allen contracted an assassin to eliminate his ex-wife, Sheila Bellush.

Already, Sheila Bellush had obtained a restraining order against Blackthorne on account of domestic violence. In an effort to begin anew in the absence of her abusive ex-husband, she relocated with her children to Sarasota, Florida.

Blackthorne hired Jose Del Toro to carry out the assassination. Del Toro severed Bellush’s larynx and, in the presence of her young children, shot her multiple times in the face with a 45-caliber pistol. Their mother’s blood and the minuscule gushing impressions that the quadruplets left all over the crime scene created a horrifying scene.

Upon his eventual apprehension, Del Toro confessed to the homicide and implicated Blackthorne in the crime. Blackthorne was apprehended on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, interstate domestic violence, and contract murdering.

During the trial, it was established that Blackthorne had previously threatened Bellush with injury should she ever separate herself from him. Blackthorne was acquitted of all charges and subsequently received two life sentences without the possibility of parole.
