Beltangady, Jul 17: Huge explosion like sound and vibration of the earth was experienced by people residing around the lower end of Ballalarayana Durga, which is situated at the edge of Kudremukh national park of Malavanthige village in the taluk, on the night of Thursday.
People of 16 houses residing at surrounding areas of Makki, Parla, Elyara Kanda and Daipithilu became scared. They did not sleep for the past two nights out of fear of landslides and rain.
Sub zonal forest officer Ranjith, forest guard Raju, assistants Gopal and Sathish paid visit to the area and did a spot inspection.
Locals said that they heard huge sound on Thursday night. But after that no sound was heard or vibration experienced.
The forest officials said that there is a possibility that some huge rock boulder must have slipped on the hill of Ballalarayana Durga due to incessant rainfall and heavy flow of water. However, the water that is flowing downwards from the hill is normal. So there is no need for locals to panic.
Members of all the 16 families living close to the hills said that they are ready to relocate if the government provides them alternative shelter. Survey was done earlier but it did not reach the final stages.
