Boonville High School Softball Star Ashton Pryor Dies in Car Accident

One of these students, Ashton Pryor, passed away. Peyton Pryor was released from the hospital after receiving medical care.

Ashton Pryor, a star softball player for Boonville High School who was projected to thrive for years to come and was influential in the team’s 2021 Class 3A state championship victory, died in a car accident on Friday morning. She was 17 at the time. The accident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Ashby Road near Gentry Road in northern Warrick County, according to a press statement from the Warrick County Sheriff’s Office.

While driving, Pryor lost control of her 2008 Jeep Wrangler. According to the news release, the vehicle collided with a guardrail and flipped over. Pryor was pronounced deceased at the scene. Peyton Pryor, her 15-year-old sister, was transferred to Ascension St. Vincent with non-life-threatening injuries. Although the authorities have not divulged the cause of the crash, it is not believed that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Pryor was outstanding for the softball team. As a freshman in 2021, she started at third base and contributed one of the Pioneers’ two singles in the Class 3A state championship game. Pryor, who moved to pitching last spring, has received honourable mention All-PAC honours for the previous two years. She committed to Indiana State in November. Randi Jo, her older sister, is a sophomore infielder for the Sycamores.

The administration of Boonville High School issued a statement stating, “As many of you may be aware, two BHS students were involved in a car accident on their way to school on Friday morning.”

Ashton was a youngster on the 2021 state championship team who hit with power and played the hot corner like a seasoned veteran. Her passion for softball and zest for life will never be forgotten.” There will be a prayer vigil at the Boonville softball field on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Saturday’s basketball game between the boys’ team and South Spencer has been cancelled. It will not be manufactured.
