The Reverend Bryan Dunagan, aged 44, passed away following nine years as the senior pastor of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church. The church notified its members through email on October 26 that their pastor, the sixth in the organization’s 88-year history, had “natural causes-related death in his sleep.”

“This news has left us shaken to our core, and we are struggling to come to terms with this profound loss,” the message, signed by the church’s executive pastor, Jay Lee, read. “We’re lifting up the Dunagan family, our congregation, our Family of Churches, our staff, and our entire community inside and outside of our church walls.”

On October 27, at 9:45, a period of guided devotion will be observed within the church.

“Everyone is invited to come pray together as we ask for God to give us wisdom as we grieve and to guide our church through our next steps,” the message continued. “Words cannot capture the depth of our emotions this morning. We extend our gratitude to each of you for your steadfast care, your unwavering leadership in our church’s mission, and your love for Bryan.”

Prior to his affiliation with Highland Park Presbyterian, Dunagan served as the teaching pastor of Peachtree Presbyterian Church, an Atlanta congregation of 7,000 members, for a duration of nine years. In addition, Presbyterian parishes in Houston, Texas, and California had been under his care.

Stanford University granted him a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and Regent College granted him a Master of Arts in Divinity. Ali, the name of Dunagan’s wife and three children, survives him.

The pastor, Bryan Dunagan, was born on March 5 in Dallas, Texas. His aspiration to become a minister was evident from an early age, and he ultimately graduated with a degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He subsequently served as the principal pastor of Dallas’s First Community Church for over three decades.

Pastor Brian Dunagan garnered a reputation as an exceptional educator and leader due to his unwavering devotion to the local church and world mission, fervor for the Word of God, and concern for others. Over the years, he led numerous individuals to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and he provided care and counsel to innumerable others.

Pastor Dunagan oversaw local nonprofit organizations and served on the boards of numerous others. He was a leader who guided others to the salvation that is in Christ while putting others before himself.
