Canada Government Nears Resolution with Google and Meta on News Law: Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez stated on Wednesday that the Canadian government sees a way forward in resolving a dispute with Google and Meta Platforms over a new law on paying online news publishers, which prompted the internet companies to terminate news access on their platforms in Canada.
In the interim, the government will suspend all advertising on Facebook and Instagram, said Rodriguez. We cannot continue to pay Meta for advertising while they refuse to pay their due share to Canadian news organisations.
