Charles Martinet Steps Down: Charles Martinet, who is well-known for providing the voice of Nintendo’s cherished character Mario, has done something unexpected. Throughout a career spanning decades, Martinet’s upbeat voice has guided gamers on countless excursions. However, the news of his departure as Mario’s voice actor came as a surprise.

Fans will mourn the numerous “It’s me, Mario!” catchphrases that have come to symbolise fun in video games. With Martinet’s departure, Mario and the game universe he has inhabited for so long enter a new phase.

Charles Martinet Steps Down

Monday, Nintendo announced that Charles Martinet, who has voiced Mario, Luigi, and Wario in Super Mario Bros. games for the past three decades, will no longer provide their voices.

Martinet will transition into the role of “Mario Ambassador,” where he will continue to “travel the world sharing the joy of Mario,” according to a statement released by the company on the website formerly known as Twitter.

It has been an honour to work with Charles for so many years, and we would like to thank and honour him.

Martinet proclaimed the news on X, a social networking website that replaced Twitter, and added, “My new adventure begins!” In my spirit, you are all Number One!

Nintendo fans first noticed a change in Mario and Wario’s voices in recent teasers for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and WarioWare: Move It, two upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch this autumn.

Nintendo stated in an email to Polygon that Martinet will not be in Wonder: “While Charles is not involved in the game, we’re excited to honour his legacy and contributions, including what he’ll be doing as a Mario Ambassador.”

Since 1991, 67-year-old Martinet has provided Mario’s recognisable voice. Initially, he performed Mario’s exaggerated, Italian-flavored intonation at Nintendo trade shows. Nonetheless, he recorded the character’s audio for the first time in the 1996 Nintendo game Super Mario 64.

Since then, Martinet has provided the accents for Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Baby Luigi, and Baby Mario in numerous video games. However, Nintendo and Illumination engaged Chris Pratt to voice Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, while Charlie Day voiced Luigi. Giuseppe and Mario’s father were two lovable characters in the film that Martinet himself directed.
