The Glynn Academy is providing counselling services in an effort to aid the Golden Isles community in coping with the tragic loss of 16-year-old Connor Mathis. In the wake of his abduction, which occurred on Monday afternoon at Camp Jekyll on Jekyll Island, during kids’ scheduled free time, a donation campaign has also been initiated.
The Georgia State Patrol, which is responsible for upholding law and order on the state-owned island, is conducting the investigation into Connor’s death. Monday evening, around six o’clock, the campers assembled for dinner.
Connor was noticeably absent. In response to his disappearance, a nightlong search and rescue operation was initiated, and on Tuesday afternoon, his lifeless body was discovered in the surf at the southernmost point of the island
The cause and manner of Connor’s death were to be investigated at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation facility in Pooler, which received his body. According to a representative of the state patrol, this information has yet to be made public. Notably, the incident occurred on Monday around 5 p.m., at high tide, during a period of increased rip current dangers during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of Connor Mathis’ demise.
