In his home on April 5, 2007, Stingley was found not moving. Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago was the place where he died. He died because he had heart disease, asthma, and quadriplegia all at the same time. Dr. Kendall Von Crowns, who is the Cook County Medical Examiner, said that Stingley’s death was an accident.

The medical examiner’s office says that heart atherosclerosis, quadriplegia, spinal cord damage, and bronchial asthma all played a role in the case.

In August 1978, Stingley and Tatum crashed. Stingley was a great receiver for the Patriots at the time. His life would never be the same after that one shock. His neck was broken, which made him unable to walk or move. He was able to move his electric wheelchair on his own now that he could move his right arm some.
