Michael Lehrer, a Second City graduate and comedian, tragically succumbed to his battle with ALS. At the time, he was 44. The Chicago Sun-Times reported in 2017 that Lehrer had the crippling neurological disorder, and according to reports, Lehrer passed away from the illness on Tuesday in Portland, Oregon, while under the care of a doctor.

A friend of Lehrer’s, Seth Weitberg, stated in a recent interview with the Sun-Times, “His spirits were high” following a visit to Lehrer in Portland. His decision appeared to have satisfied him, in my opinion. The musician expressed gratitude in an Instagram post for “everything” that has been “given to the world.”

It was disclosed that the performer, who received the New Face of Comedy award at the 2014 Just for Laughs Festival, worked at their Las Vegas location and toured with the legendary group. Furthermore, it is renowned that he acquired a tattoo live onstage during Second City’s final improv performance.

“Michael courageously and hilariously redirected his comedic persona to directly confront his struggles and foibles with the debilitating disease” upon receiving the news of his prognosis.

Lehrer continued to perform in his later years; according to The Chicago Sun-Times, he appeared 99 times in Austin between 2019 and 2022 for the live comedy podcast Kill Tony.

Although it was foreseen, there are no adequate words to characterize it. A podcast-hosted Instagram tribute read, “What a human being. The purpose of his existence was to elicit laughter from others. It is advised to ease up.

Joe Rogan, a frequent guest on the program, penned a tribute to the comedian: “The courage this man had to do stand up while battling a debilitating disease was insanely impressive, and though he struggled to get words out the man would KILL onstage,” according to him. “He was a real legend, and I’m going to miss him very much.”

In order to provide financial assistance for Lehrer’s son, a GoFundMe page has been created.

“He desired for his son Colin to depart this life in a financially secure position.” “By ensuring the temporary safety of Michael’s son, we would like to honor him and show him how much we loved him,” read one message on the page, which has amassed nearly $17,000 in less than twenty-four hours of fundraising.

“He made us laugh like we never knew we could, at things we never knew we could laugh at,” according to the post. “Let’s come together as a community and fulfill Michael’s last wish as best we can.”
