The arrested youth has been identified as Lalan Mishra, a resident of Govind Khawade Road under the town police station.
A local young boy was caught red-handed while he was stealing cash from ‘Daan Patra’ (donation box) fixed in front of the Hanuman temple of Baba Baidyanath Dham Temple’s patio.
Rs 26,000 in cash have been recovered from the arrested youth on the spot.
The arrested youth has been identified as Lalan Mishra, a resident of Govind Khawade Road under the town police station.
The youth was noticed by two police personnel Niranjan Prasad Singh and Dinesh Prasad Singh who were on duty. They noticed that the youth was repeatedly fetching something with the help of a bamboo stick through the hole made in the box (to drop coins and currency by pilgrims) and keeping them in his pocket.
The suspicious activity of the youth made both policemen respond in timely and they caught him. He was fetching the currency notes using chewing gum on the tip of the bamboo stick.
Later, he was handed over to the local police station.
Before this incident, six pick-pockets dressed up as Kanwariyas were arrested. All are residents of other states.
