Disney CEO Bob Iger’s Rumored Apple Deal Leads to $800 Million Loss

Disney has recently transformed into a vast conglomerate, acquiring an outsized portion of the entertainment industry.

Disney CEO Bob Iger’s Rumored Apple Deal Leads to $800 Million Loss: According to Bloomberg, Disney CEO Bob Iger is seriously contemplating selling the company, which would be a poor decision. Disney has recently transformed into a vast conglomerate, acquiring an outsized portion of the entertainment industry.

Disney CEO Bob Iger’s Rumored Apple Deal Leads to $800 Million Loss

They have acquired several prominent studios over the past decade, including 20th Century Fox, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm. All of these acquisitions were completed during Bob Iger’s tenure as CEO. However, he resigned a few years ago and was subsequently succeeded by Bob Chapek.

Bob Iger’s acquisitions as Disney CEO before stepping down a few years ago:

  • Bob Iger’s acquisitions as Disney CEO include:
  • acquires Fox assets for $71 billion in 2018
  • 2012: purchase for $4 billion of Lucasfilm
  • 2009: purchase for $4 billion of Marvel
  • acquires Pixar for $7.4 billion in 2006.

After two years on the job, Chapek left Disney with the company’s most disappointing results in recent memory, as the company’s content was abruptly less engaging and less well-liked than it had been under Bob Iger.

Iger returned to the company in an attempt to halt its rapid decline, but he appeared to have failed. Therefore, it is plausible that Disney CEO Bob Iger is considering selling the company for the highest price possible. Apple Inc. is widely believed to be one of the primary suitors for Disney.

Iger returned to attempt to detract attention from the ongoing strikes by writers and actors by persuading Disney stockholders to invest in a potential sale.

This should make it easy for him to avoid the issue. Despite earning $27 million in 2017, Iger has recently condemned this strike.

Disney’s losses in 2023

Recent projections indicate that Disney will incur a $800 million loss in the fiscal third quarter of 2023. Streaming issues with Disney+ and recent events have increased the possibility that Disney will be acquired by a third party.

Numerous media insiders have confirmed the veracity of this rumour. Even if it has not been confirmed, the rumour must be true if multiple insiders have heard it. We’ve said it before: Disney’s timing is awful given the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strike.

Netizens Rally Against Disney Snow White Film Choice

Is it feasible to merge the two companies? Do you believe it’s a good idea?

A merger between Disney and Apple could have advantages, but also disadvantages. First, the transaction could be challenged under antitrust laws. As a consequence of the merger, the combined company would have substantial market power, which could lead to increased consumer prices.

Even if Apple has enough cash to purchase Disney, according to AppleInsider, a deal of this magnitude is exceedingly unlikely. In the past, a judge in the United States ruled against the merger of two major publishing houses because it would have lowered author payments and suppressed competition. This means that if the remote possibility of Apple acquiring Disney materialised, it would require the sanction of federal officials in the United States.

A third potential issue with the transaction is job losses. Disney and Apple, two of the largest employers in the world, may have to lay off employees in order to optimise their operations and merge. Third, Disney’s streaming service may be seen as a victim of the acquisition. Disney has invested significantly in its streaming services, including Disney+ and Hulu.

The potential advantages and disadvantages of combining Disney and Apple are multifaceted and extensive. The agreement has not yet been finalised, but if it is, it will unquestionably transform the entertainment industry.
