Eliza Fletcher Cause Of Death: Eliza Fletcher, the abducted teacher from Memphis, was discovered dead from a gunshot wound to the back of the head and severe force trauma, as reported by CNN affiliate WHBQ.

According to the report from the West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center, an autopsy revealed a head trauma caused by a perforating gunshot. “Based on all currently available and known information, the cause of death is a gunshot wound and a head injury caused by blunt force, and the manner of death is homicide.”

The authorities have now verified how a Tennessee kindergarten teacher who was kidnapped while out for a morning jog died after her body was discovered earlier this month.

The West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center in Memphis determined that Eliza Fletcher, 34, died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head, mandible fractures, and sharp force wounds to the right leg, as reported by the Associated Press.

When contacted by PEOPLE for comment, WTRFC did not explicitly respond. Fletcher, a mother of two, was abducted and thrust into the trunk of a black SUV on September 2, while she was jogging in Memphis.

Two days after Fletcher was reported missing, Memphis police claimed to have discovered Cleotha Abston Henderson’s DNA on a pair of shoes found at the crime scene. Henderson, 38 years old, was apprehended and charged with aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence.

Abston Henderson allegedly spent over an hour cleaning the GMC Terrain SUV he is accused of using to abduct Fletcher, as captured on surveillance footage. His brother Mario reportedly informed authorities that he was “washing his clothing in the sink of the house” and “acting very strangely.

The following day, a body was discovered seven miles away from the location where additional security footage revealed Fletcher was taken. Authorities revealed that Abston Henderson was charged with first-degree homicide and first-degree murder in the commission of kidnapping after further investigation.

No appeal has been filed by Abston Henderson to date. Previously, the public defender representing him declined to comment to PEOPLE.
