Florida Man Faces 20-Year Prison Sentence for Wire Fraud Scheme

Kissimmee resident Jesus Alejandro Millan Gomez has admitted to committing wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, which could result in a maximum twenty-year federal prison sentence.

Millan Gomez, according to court records, utilised fraudulent rideshare driver accounts constructed with stolen identities. As part of this ruse, he orchestrated the creation of multiple rider accounts by non-Florida residents, including those from Mexico and other regions.

Millan Gomez used multiple cell phones and a “spoofing” location application to conceal or manipulate his location from the ridesharing service while receiving instructions to pair journeys using the cell phones he controlled.

During the journeys, Millan Gomez manipulated the location app to make it appear as though he had driven significantly further than the requested destination, thereby increasing the fare charged by the ridesharing service.

The fraudulent activities exploited a vulnerability in the ridesharing company’s payment system at the time, resulting in a payment loss of $232,994.87 for the company.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted an exhaustive investigation, and Assistant United States Attorney Ranganath Manthripragada supervises the prosecution of the case.

A Kissimmee resident has confessed to participating in a fraud scheme that specifically targeted a ridesharing service. The individual has pled guilty to wire fraud-related offences.
